Breakout UT Libraries

I led our general education team in the development of a tailored “breakout” game using the “escape room” concept as a vehicle of learning and assessment. An escape room is defined as “a physical adventure game in which players are locked in a room and have to use elements of the room to solve a series of puzzles and escape within a set time limit. The games are physical versions of ‘escape the room’ video games”(Escape Room). Summer 2016 served as the beta test period by inviting incoming students participating in summer classes and special programming to participate and provide feedback.

Breakout UT Libraries is an interactive learning experience targeted toward incoming freshmen. They will be asked to use the skills that learned via flipped library instruction and review before having to “break out” of the libraries.

**The instructional portion of the videos are only 2 minutes and 27 seconds long. The last 30 minutes are a timer for students.**
